It has been increasingly observed that water leakage is a common problem of buildings in Mauritius, this is a common problem for both old and new buildings.Given the common occurrence of this problem, it is suggested that this topic be addressed. The probable causal factors could be the type of building material, structure of the building, adaptability of structure/material to location of building and type of soil. There is also a perception that colonial buildings were more appropriate for the local climatic conditions in terms of structure and building material. This is a topic that might require attention due to its importance. A regulatory framework in terms of norms and standards could also be a subject of study.
