It is often seen that crime in Mauritius occur mostly in particular areas where police presence is limited or inexistant. It is also hard to get timely police assistance especially at night due to the geographical location of police station. Moreover, the police has recently started a laudable initiative by positioning police vehicles in strategic areas over the island. However having only one police vehicle in these strategic areas do not guarantee that the policemen are adequately equiped to deal with all inventualities

    Potential Solution:
One potential solution is to have mobile police stations similar to those found in UK and the US. The mobile police station are modified buses or caravan which provide functionality and equipments similar to a fixed police station. Consequently this enhance the capability of the police force to respond and service particular areas easily.

    – Ability to service remote ares
    – Enhance responce time of Police
    – ease of mobilising police force during special events such as Mahashivratri or Pere Laval
    – enhance disaster responce time
    – Better welfare for policemen posted
