While we underscore the benefits of digital technologies in the transformation of societies leading to a new behavioural order, we also observe that these new developments have altered the lifestyles of people and puts increased pressure on the citizens, creating multi-folded difficulties in the Mauritian society, and a multiplication of social issues and wellbeing challenges.

    Potential Solutions:
This situation can be addressed through the promotion of a civic culture, ethics and values, including respect for institutions, starting at the level of families, educational institutions, work environment and Parliament. Above all, the sense of civic responsibility should be inculcated from a very young age and throughout the development of a citizen.

The promotion of values should be encouraged by concrete initiatives at different levels of society and various sectors with particular attention to the respect of our environment. For example, selective refuse collection must constitute a prime objective at the level of local government with the setting up of appropriate structures to provide adequate facilities to every citizen.
